Restaurant and private-dining proposals

A restaurant proposal is a timing problem more than a design one. The setup has to appear between courses or before you arrive, fit a space that is already furnished, and not get in the way of service.

The spots

Where people actually mean

  • A private dining room, where you effectively have the space to yourself
  • A reserved corner table, dressed small
  • A restaurant terrace or garden, seasonally
  • A full buy-out, where the room becomes yours and the constraint disappears

Worth knowing

The restaurant decides, not us

Can you set up a proposal at a restaurant?
Every restaurant has its own rule about outside décor, and many will not allow anything at all during service. Get their agreement first, in writing if you can, and ask specifically about candles and about what time we can be in the room. A private dining room almost always says yes; a busy dining floor on a Saturday often does not.
When is the best time to propose at a restaurant?
Before you arrive is easiest for everyone. If it has to happen during the meal, the gap between main and dessert is the window the staff can usually protect.
What kind of setup suits a restaurant?
Floral accents and a runner — sized to a table rather than a room, and they leave the space usable. A small custom sign — reads in a tight interior shot where a full arch would not fit. Rose petals — nothing to install, nothing to take down mid-service.
